Innovid built its independence pitch on being the largest ad server outside the walled gardens — the neutral pipe through which CTV impressions flowed for buyers who didn’t want their delivery, frequency, and measurement signal sitting inside Google’s Campaign Manager 360 or Amazon’s stack. The 2022 TVSquared deal extended that pitch into measurement; the 2021 SPAC IPO funded it.

Mediaocean’s $500 million take-private in February 2025 ended the standalone story and started a different one: independence at scale, achieved through consolidation. Pairing Innovid with Flashtalking — Mediaocean’s other ad server — created the only meaningful counterweight to Google and Amazon in omnichannel ad serving and measurement, with Zvika Netter running the combined business and reporting to Mediaocean CEO Bill Wise. The trade-off — which the post-close press cycle elided — is that “independent” now means “independent from the walled gardens,” not “independent of any particular owner.” Mediaocean, backed by CVC, is the owner.

Watch for: how the Innovid + Flashtalking measurement and ad-serving stacks integrate (and whether either brand survives long-term), how the combined entity prices against Google’s free-to-buyer ad-server economics, and what Netter’s expanded Mediaocean Chief Innovation Officer remit (added February 2026) signals about further M&A inside the Mediaocean portfolio.
